HISTORY
Legend tells that the great Incan King Huaynacápac met and fell in love with the Caranqui’s Princess Pacha in sites of what today is Chorlavi. The cheerful music, joyful dance and colorful costumes of the indigenous people are the cultural inheritance of this love story at the present time.
In 1620 the hacienda was settled by the Jesuits for harvesting crops and later used as a monastery. With the expulsion of the Jesuits, the hacienda was acquired by the Tobar family. Initially having an area over 370 acres, the most of land were donated, sold and assigned to workers and social projects.
The magnificent mansion revealed the fusion of the European style and the skills of the native artisans. Since 1970 Chorlavi has been converted to offer the best hotel services, becoming nowadays one of the most renowned hostelries of Ecuador.
